In 2008, percussionist Ray Moretta approached Anna about working together. Ray's musicianship and depth immediately changed Anna's musical direction from performing Americana at fairs with her 5 piece band, The Wild Cattahoulas, to showcasing her original jazz and blues at the best venues in the area.
Keeping stand-up bassist Bill Andrews also turned out to be a magical decision. The tone and quality of their music together has resulted in solid air play on the radio and immediate employment. The Anna Hamilton Trio performs Anna's original music exclusively. From her humorous blues to her pensive and insightful jazz ballads the range of her material never fails to entertain and amaze her audiences. The Trio is currently part of the hosting rotation for the weekly Blues Jam at the historic Jambalaya Cafe in Arcata, Ca. They are: Bill Andrews is an in-demand stand up bass player, popular for his tone and broad musical experience. His musical projects vary from playing in the Eureka Symphony Orchestra to swinging with the popular 24/7 Jazz Trio. He also works with the versatile Off the Charts and 4 for Jazz.
His tone is fat and resonant, his style is filled with nuance and his groove is deep in melody and pulse. His bass itself has beautiful tone which adds a warm fulness to whatever he's playing. I count myself lucky to have Bill in the Anna Hamilton Trio. Ray Moreta's passion for music is so strong that he is involved in every aspect of it. He is a master of sound engineering; he's in demand for his back line services to major touring groups; he sings, plays bass and guitar and all forms of percussion.
Ray's musical interests currently center around Salsa, Funk and my Jazzy Blues. His Salsa association is with the Bay Area's Orquesta Salsa Dura. He was the lead singer in Ponche, and played with Samba Para a Pova, of San Francisco. He gets his funk fix with his rhythm section, Supa Green. He has also played with the Willie D. Burton Trio, the Lee Keskela Trio and Rare Daze. As a drummer Ray's focus on the details of my original music has given me a magic carpet to play on. Ray's tone contributes to the Trio's mellow blend and supports the textures of my music. I really count myself lucky to have Ray Moreta playing drums in the Anna Hamilton Trio. Anna Hamilton has performed constantly since she was a teen. She's played from Canada to Mexico, Florida to Hawaii, New Orleans to Kansas City, Mo. and up and down her home state of California. She has shared the stage with scores of world class players and MC'd everything from open mikes to Bluegrass festivals
Anna plays as a single and has fronted five bands featuring her original music. She's been a community radio programmer and producer on KMUD for eighteen years. And she's produced three singles and two CD's encompassing Americana, Reggae, Folk, Funk, Jazz and Blues. The Anna Hamilton Trio can be contacted by emailing Anna Banana. |
